As we mentioned in previous article, premenstrual syndrome is defined as faulty function of the ovaries related to the women’s menstrual cycle, it effects a women’s physical and emotional state, and sometimes interferes with daily activities as a result of hormone fluctuation. The syndrome occurs one to two weeks before menstruation and then declines when the period starts. In this article, we will discuss how wild cold water fish effects women with premenstrual syndrome.

Before reading the article, I want to emphasize the word of “wild”, so you can avoid farm fish which may be grown in a crowd environment and contaminated with heavy chemicals and parasites.

I. Definition

Wild cold water fish including salmon which lives in cold water and prefer temperature below 68 °F. they live in ocean all their live and only come back to the stream where they were born to spore and die after ward.

II. How wild cold water fish effects women with PMS

1. Omega 3 fatty acid

Because the fish has been living all it’s life in cold water oceans, it contain high levels of Omega fatty acid to protect itself against hypothermia.

a) Liver metabolism

Omega 3 fatty acid is vital for liver in carbohydrate synthesis, fatty acid metabolism. Deficiency or unbalance between essential fatty acid causes over production of certain hormone in the body and increases the risk of liver function in regulating pancreas in secreting insulin leading to nervous tension including depression, anxiety, nervousness and food and sugar craving.

b) Hormone balancing

It also an important agent in balancing the levels of estrogen and progesterone through liver hormone metabolism. Deficiency of omega fatty acid causes over production of the levels of estrogen resulting in hormone imbalance

c) Premenstrual pain and cramps

Omega 3 fatty acid is essential to convert linoleic acid to GLA then into PGE1 or 3.Without enough omega 3 fatty acid most linoleic acia would covert to PGE2, the bad prostaglanlins hormone resulting in increasing the risk of premenstrual pain and cramps.

2. Iodine

Wild cold water fish also contains high amount of iodine which is essential for maintaining proper function of the thyroid gland including hormone secretion. Deficiency of iodine causes abnormal thyroid function leading to premenstrual syndrome like symptoms and the risk of breast cancer.

3. Iron and zinc

a) Iron is important in maintaining the absorption of oxygen and formation of red blood cells in the bloodstream which is essential for circulatory system and our body cells need. Deficiency causes anaemia and nervous tension including tiredness, shortness of breath, dizziness and fatigue.

b) Zinc

Zinc plays an important to protect out body from infection and inflammation including the reproductive organs.

4. Niacin

Niacin besides helps to maintain normal of enzyme formation in cabohydrate sysnthesis into energy, it also works together with other vitamin B complex and magnesium in regulating the levels of glucose in the bloodstream resulting in decreasing the risk of insulin fluctuation and food and sugar craving for some women with PMS.

5. Other vitamin B complex

Wild cold water fish contains high amount of vitamin B complex which are not only necessary for maintaining metabolic processes, but also increases the function of

a) Immune System

In fighting against foreign invasion and irregular cell growth causing inflammation and infection and

b) Nervous system

In information transmitting by neurotransmitters resulting in lessening the risk of depression, anxiety and emotional and physical stress.
